  • TUE, 9:30 A.M. – 10:00 A.M., Free ASAHI Finnish exercise class (all ages and levels) AT DRAVER PARK now that we are in the warm season
  • TUE, 3:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M., Residents’ trash/recycling drop-off at Powell Township Transfer Station
  • THU, 9:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M., Powell Township Hall (offices) open to public for business
  • THU, 10:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M., Assessor of Record’s office hours in Powell Township Hall (since assessing may involve field work outside of the office, please email, call, or verify availability before any in-person visits)
  • FRI, 9:30 – 10:00 A.M., Free “Asahi” Finnish exercise class (all ages/levels) AT DRAVER PARK now that we are in the warm season
  • SAT, 8:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M., Residents’ trash/recycling drop-off at Powell Township Transfer Station

OTHER REGULAR EVENTS AND HAPPENINGS

  • Marquette County Senior Center staff will be in Town Hall 9 A.M. – 3 P.M. the first Thursday of each month (stop in or schedule a free appointment at 906-228-0456)
  • Cash’s Corner Cafe’s walk-up window offering pizza, smash burgers & more is open 2PM-8PM daily for the season (until at least Labor Day)
  • Food Bank is open THROUGH ENTIRE SUMMER at Bill Dionne (Halfway) Fire Hall on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month (5 – 7 P.M.), OR ANY TIME on request
  • Community Dinners are on 2nd Tuesday of each month (except July and August)
  • The 33rd annual Fire on the Bay event and fireworks is July 10, 2027, at Burns Landing/Pavilion and Mino Kwe Jiigibiik
  • Knitting Club every Monday 10AM – 12PM at St. Mary’s Church in Big Bay 
  • Senior Get Together every Thursday 10AM – 12PM – EVERYONE WELCOME – at Presbyterian Church (snacks, cards, puzzles, and more)
  • ANNUAL COUNTY HAZARDOUS WASTE DROP-OFF DATES ARE IN: All details at recycle906.com or 906-249-4125, location is Marquette County Landfill
    (NOT BIG BAY), and timing is 3PM-7PM for each date listed: May 7, June 4, July 9, August 6, September 10, October 1, OR call for an appointment
  • Free Library in Powell Township Hall available any time (call to request access during non-business hours) — upgrade underway, thanks to energetic volunteers
  • Meals on Wheels for Powell Township residents on request (see flyer or online notices page)
  • Trails: Noquemanon Trail Network, Big Bay Pathway and Trailhead, Powell Township Recreational Trail Network, Thomas Rock area
  • Gardens: Flower, pollinator, and native gardens were planted recently throughout town and near trailhead
  • Parks: Draver Park, Pavilion, & Ballfield, Burns Landing & Pavilion, Perkins Park, Thomas Rock Scenic Overlook, Bill Dionne Fire Hall Kids’ Park
  • Beaches/Shores: Perkins Park on Lake Independence, Mino-kwe Jiigibiik on Lake Superior, Dock of the Bay Harbor/Marina
  • Emergency or Warming Centers will be set up and available during emergencies and/or on request for residents
  • Big Bay Cemetery Plot Map is available at powelltownship.org at the Cemetery Department page OR see QR code posted on bulletin boards
  • Event space rentals: Burns Landing & Pavilion, Draver Park Pavilion, and Town Hall; rental agreements are online or at township (township residents renting the hall for funerals, wakes, or celebrations of life: rental is free but must be pre-coordinated, and a $25 security deposit is refunded after event)
  • Local waterfalls: Alder Falls, Yellow Dog Falls, West Yellow Dog Falls, Bulldog Falls, Big Garlic Falls, Pinnacle Falls, and more to discover. A helpful site (not township-maintained) is waterfallsofthekeweenaw.com/map/
  • Local jobs, term appointments, and volunteering:
    —Three Powell Township positions are posted online and throughout town
    —THERE ARE NEW, $18/HR, SEASONAL, PART TIME LABORER POSITIONS AVAILABLE (if interested, call 906-345-9345 or stop by the Town Hall offices during Mon 9AM-12PM or Thu 9AM-12PM public hours)
    —Volunteers are also needed for parks, recreation, trail grooming, and other township items
    —Drury’s General Store and Cash’s Corner Café are hiring part-time (please contact Drury’s directly)
    —The Powell Township School Board will have four seats up for election during the November 3, 2026, General Election, to include two (2) 6-year full terms available and one (1) 4-year partial term available; all applicant paperwork must be filed by 4 P.M. on July 21)
