Transfer Station Passes

A Transfer Station pass enables taxpaying residents to use the Transfer Station for basic waste disposal and recycling. Waste and recycling details and guidelines are listed below. For more information or questions, call or visit the Powell Township Government offices during public business hours (Mondays & Thursdays 9 A.M. to 12 P.M., 906-345-9345 ext. 10 or 13).

  • Residents must have parcel number ready and proof of ownership if new to the community.
  • Residents of properties adjacent to Powell Township who use the Transfer Station have an annual Transfer Station pass fee.
  • To calculate the fee, multiply the property’s taxable value by .981, then divide by 1,000.
  • Example for a property adjacent to Powell Township with a 2025 taxable value of $100,000: ((.981 * 100,000)/1000) = $98.10 annual Transfer Station pass fee

RECYCLING

How does recycling work?

  • Powell Township residents sort recyclable items into the mixed and glass recycle bins available at the Powell Township Transfer Station.
  • Those items are transported to the Marquette County Solid Waste Management Authority (MCSWMA) which operates a material recovery facility (MRF).
  • The MRF uses technology and people to sort recycled items into clean recycling.
  • Recycling is a great way to help the environment and save space in the landfill
  • Powell Township residents also save tax money on landfill fees when we recycle!
